Purpose of your Team and Role

Lead the Developer Relations team, and take on ownership of maximizing GraphCMS’s visibility and adoption among developers, reporting to our CEO.

Key goals & KPIs, with sample metrics for this role, will be:
- Acquisition: Referral/Organic Traffic, Word of Mouth, Visitors, Signups.
- Activation: Successful Onboarding, WAU, Actively Consumed Projects, Workshops.
- Retention: Churn, Developer Satisfaction, Superusers.


What you will be working on

  • As the Developer Experience Lead you will be responsible for taking Developer Relations at GraphCMS to the next level. This role can be incredibly external facing, with a high demand for content creation, engagement, and driving product adoption - yet one that also has an internal, business-critical impact. Your focus will be on cultivating, empowering, and elevating the many diverse voices that make up not only the GraphCMS community - but also the wider developer community.

  • You will have individual accountability and complete support over establishing the short-term tactics and long-term strategy for Developer Relations as we strive towards retaining and growing Organic/Inbound as our strongest channels going forward with a growing focus on the enterprise side of the business.

  • Some of the things you will be working on include:

  • Conferences and Events: You will represent GraphCMS at certain conferences and events that align with our growth plans and business objectives. Depending on the conference, you may be required to speak and/or support at conferences around APIs, Microservices, Enterprise Architectures, and GraphQL that are more mature/enterprise in nature such as API Days, API World, Microservices World, etc. Furthermore, you will help define the events planning roadmap for the rest of the developer relations team to maximize visibility in other ecosystems like Jamstack Conf. Gatsby Conf., Next.js Conf., etc.
    Technical Content and Open Source Work: A large portion of your responsibilities will include creating and managing the technical content output from the Marketing team alongside SEO, Product Marketing, and Developer Relations. You will work around technical concepts like Content Federation, GraphQL Tooling, Microservices, and JavaScript frameworks. Depending on the priorities, planning, use-cases, and resources, your content can be in a variety of formats (blog, guide, tutorial, podcast, video, stream, code examples, UI Extensions, and docs, to name a few).
    Architecture Design and Commercial Support: From time to time you may be required to support the wider commercial organization (Direct Sales, Partner Sales, and Customer Success) in complex architecture decisions and recommendations with our Enterprise prospects and customers.
    Leadership and People Management: As Developer Relations Lead, you will be responsible for growing the Developer Relations function to the next level. Your current team includes a Sr. Developer Relations Manager and a Developer Advocate, focussing on creating technical content, improving the DX within the product, and engaging with the community. You will take charge of defining the Developer Relations team’s structure and goals, owning their KPIs around acquisition, activation, and retention, and be responsible for mentoring and growing the existing team.

  • You have extensive experience in creating technical content focused on helping developers succeed with a variety of tools and frameworks.

  • You are energized by being involved with a community - local, technical, or virtual. You have broad experience in how developer tooling helps larger companies succeed, and are comfortable bridging the gap between Marketing, Product, and Commercial activities to work in GraphCMS’s best interests.

  • Have experience creating content strategies, and executing to grow audience and product adoption.

  • The ability to learn quickly and keep up to date with the latest changes in the industry.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in English.
